Biography

Recognised for his stunning paintings and for his relaxed and easy way of teaching others, Tony has been artistically driven from his early childhood in Saltaire,Shipley. The second youngest of a large northern family he was motivated and encouraged by his mother and despite the fact that his father had passed away when Tony was only seven years old, leaving a widow with twelve children to bring up, he was still allowed to pursue his artistic leaning.

At the very young age of 15 years and one month Tony started his formal art education at Bradford College of Art. On leaving the college he first spent six months as a carpet fitter before securing a position as a display and exhibition designer. Some two years later he moved into the advertising industry. For the next ten years he worked for several leading international companies producing the advertisements, brand images and literature for many leading international brands eventually becoming the advertising/marketing director Wrangler Jeans U.K.

At this time with a young son Tony and his wife made the decision to return to the fine art sector, painting, exhibiting and tutoring to survive. Over the years since making the move there has been a growing recognition world wide of Tonys talent. He now has paintings hung in venues all over the world and has had several one man shows during that time. Yorkshire Television have used his work in the "Heartbeat" series,commissioning him to paint a set of watercolours especially for this program.

As well as painting his beloved Yorkshire, Tony is a tutor for the Open College of the Arts, a professional associate and demonstrator of the Society of All Artists, a demonstrator for the Art Foundation, the Cumberland Pencil Company ( Derwent pencils and pastels), Rosemary Brushed, St Cuthberts Mill paper manufacturers, Hahanemuller, Schmincke and Faber Castel.

He regularly travels the length and breadth of the country giving workshops and demonstrations at exhibitions for leading manufacturers, distributors, importers of art materials and for art groups and societies. His depth of knowledge of techniques and materials in most mediums including Acrylics, Oils, Watercolours, Pastels and all Derwent pencil products provide him with the skills to help and guide others along their artistic paths.
